Museum building idea
In early nineties of the twentieth century, the idea of establishing the first museum in the Samaritan community began to form for the Samaritan priest Hosni Wasif.
As a result of the increase in the number of visitors and foreign tourists from all over the world and their desire to know about the smallest community in the world without having a special place to receive them, the priest took the idea seriously and decided to establish the Samaritan Museum.
In 1997 , The priest Hosni Wassef explained the name of the martyr Yasser Arafat “Abu Ammar” ,Who contributed financially and morally to support the idea of this museum. The idea became a reality and the museum was officially opened.
In 2010, the museum was rehabilitated by the Palestinian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities and in cooperation with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization – UNESCO.
